NewsMallaro Named as Finalist for CEO of the Year

Some of the Cedar Valley’s most innovative and tech-savvy companies and executives have been announced as finalists for the Technology Association of Iowa’s (TAI) annual Prometheus Awards.

Mike Mallaro of VGM Group, Inc. and Aaron Schurman of Phantom EFX are among the finalists. Mallaro and Schurman are in a group of five executives up for the CEO of the Year award.

“It’s an honor to be nominated and selected as a finalist for a Prometheus Award,” said Mallaro, who has been with VGM since 2001 and CEO since 2016. “The TAI strives to advance Iowa’s reputation as a technology state, and I feel that our team of employee owners use their entrepreneurial mindset to help fulfill that mission and to help position our company for continued success.”

Other Cedar Valley-based companies that are finalists include Visual Logic for Technology Company of the Year and Phantom EFX for Mobile App of the Year. The City of Cedar Falls is also up for Technology Community of the Year (large category), competing against Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.

Fourteen award categories make up the Prometheus Awards, and a panel of judges selected the finalists based on their contributions to Iowa’s technology community. Factors that weighed heavily included innovation, development of creative solutions and demonstration of industry leadership.

“The Prometheus Awards is the most prestigious recognition for Iowa’s technology industry and brings together leaders from the tech community to celebrate the year’s most momentous innovations,” said Brian Waller, president of TAI. “These awards showcase the great talent and companies in Iowa and further establish Iowa as a technology state.”

Winners will be announced on April 12 during The Prometheus Awards dinner in downtown Des Moines.
