NewsVGM Ranked Top Workplace in Iowa

VGM Group Inc. has been selected as Iowa’s Top Workplace for large employers.    

The award was presented during a luncheon held in Des Moines where employers from across the state attended to see how, based on employees’ anonymous survey responses, they ranked with other employers similar in size. Approximately 300 businesses participated in the 2017 program, of which 150 were ranked on the top workplaces list. For VGM, they staked claim to the top spot.       

“This is a great honor for our company to be ranked as the Top Workplace in Iowa,” said Mike Mallaro, VGM’s chief executive officer. “I happen to think we have the best team in the country. Our people serve our customers with tremendous dedication and commitment. VGM is a family and being an extraordinary place to work is one of our important aspirations.”

The Top Workplaces lists are based on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Companies with a minimum of 35 employees are eligible to participate in the program and are categorized into three bands, Small, Mid-sized and Large. Once the employee survey is administered, several aspects of workplace culture are measured, including alignment, execution, and connection, to name a few. Based on responses, employers are ranked amongst companies within their size band. 2017 participants ranged in company size of 7,153 employees to 35.  

For VGM, who employs nearly 900 employees, with 790 of them in Iowa, ranking as a top employer is nothing new to the employee-owned company. They’ve been in the top 10 each of the last four times they have participated in the third-party survey, finishing in the top spot in 2015. Along with the accolades of finishing number one, VGM’s management team can review survey stats and anonymous comments to diagnose strengths and areas that may need improvement.

“Being recognized as a Top Workplace is a great achievement for our entire organization,” stated VGM’s Manager of Talent Acquisition and Development, Amy Streeter. “We look forward to celebrating this accomplishment but we also know that, although we’re ranked number one, we have areas where we can improve. We review the results and will build on our strengths and take strides to improve on areas of focus to ensure that we remain a top workplace in the hearts of our employees.”

As part of the celebration, VGM has coordinated a special photo of its employees located in Waterloo. The photo shoot will take place on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at VGM’s Main Campus at 1111 West San Marnan Drive.
